Bingham takes group 3 at the Ricoh Arena

Stuart Bingham won group 3 of the Champion of Champions event in Coventry after he beat Ricky Walden and Judd Trump, after Trump beat Marco Fu. Bingham was on top form on day 2 at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry, and only dropped 2 frames all day.

So let's have a look back at the action:

Judd Trump 4-1 Marco Fu - Judd Trump won a fairly scrappy affair against Marco Fu in the first semi-final of group 3, without having to play his best snooker. Fu needed 2 or 3 chances to take the opening frame of the match, but a break of 65 from Judd soon levelled the match. It only went downhill from there for Fu, who had been in good from ahead of the event, but he was unable to bring that form to Coventry. Trump took a very scrappy third frame to go 2-1 ahead, and didn't look back from there going 3-1 up and 1 away from victory with the help of a break of 48. Trump sealed his place in the group final in the next frame, with a break of 69 doing enough for him to win it 4-1.

Stuart Bingham 4-0 Ricky Walden - Stuart Bingham played well to whitewash a below par Ricky Walden in the second match of the afternoon and book his place in the evenings group final. It all started very well for Bingham with a break of 75 putting him 1-0 up. Bingham needed a couple of chances in the next frame but he'd soon doubled his lead with the help of 2 breaks of 32. Bingham continued to seize on Walden's errors, a run of 60 putting him 3-0 ahead and a frame from victory. Bingham needed a couple of chances in the next frame, but a break of 41 helped him along the way to the frame he needed, to book his place in the group final with Judd Trump.

Stuart Bingham 6-2 Judd Trump - As I say, Stuart was in top form all day, and he was superb once more against Judd punishing the former UK Champions simple errors. The opening frame was no different as Trump missed an easy frame ball on 60, and Bingham made a clearance of 63 to win it on the black. That affected Trump and after he missed a thin red in the next, Bingham made a break of 111 to move 2-0 ahead. Stuart continued his domination in the next with a break of 78 putting him 3-0 up and in complete control of the contest. Trump needed a couple of chances in the next to get the frame before the interval that he desperately needed, a break of 41 helping him along the way to closing the deficit to 3-1. Things got a little bit nervy, when Trump won the next with a run of 56 after Bingham missed when he looked like going 4-1 ahead. The next frame started off fairly tensely before Bingham could get in and take control, a run of 65 killing the frame of for a 4-2 Bingham advantage. The former Premier League champion needed a couple of chances in the next frame but a break of 47 helped him eventually go 3 up with 4 to play, at 5-2. The next frame was relatively nervy, with both players getting plenty of chances. However, it was Bingham that finally took his with a tense colour clearance, culminating in a cutback black, winning him the frame and the match, putting him into Saturday's semi-final.

Another good day of snooker then in Coventry, and I'm really enjoying the ITV4 coverage of the whole thing. I'll be back tomorrow to review the action from group 4 with Robertson, Allen, carter and Gould all in action.
